The Nordic Combined events have been contested at the Winter Gmaes since the year of 1924. The first competition involved an 18 km cross-country skiing, followed by ski jumping. Whoever was to earn the most points from both competition events, won. At the 1952 Winter Games, the ski jumping was held for the first time, followed by the 18 km cross country skiing. Later the cross country skiing portion was reduced to 15 km at the 1956 Winter Games.
