Your Bucket List: National Finals Rodeo

Published on: Oct 28 2015 by Leslie Lempka

The National Finals Rodeo, or NFR for short, is the main championship rodeo event of the year in the US.   The NFR is held at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the first full week in December.  This year the event begins on December 3rd, and runs through December 12th.

Events at the NFR include:  bareback riding, steer wrestling (also known as bull dogging), team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping or calf roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.

Fun Fact about the NFR: because the rodeo uses ‘special dirt’ it is stored on the campus of UNLV to used for the next NFR.

Seating information for the Thomas & Mack Center:

  1. Gold Buckle:  the Gold Buckle seating is located from sections 104-110 and sections 113-117 in rows FF-JJ.   The Gold Buckle seats allow you to get up close to the action, and are definitely worth the cost of the ticket.
  2. 100 Level: is a great option, as the Thomas & Mack center is a smaller venue so the view from any 100 level seat is excellent.  Choose seats in the lowest row possible that is within your budget.
  3. 200 Level:  because the Thomas & Mack center is a smaller venue, seats in the 200 level offer a good view of the dirt.  Again, choose seats as low as possible that is within your budget.

The National Finals Rodeo are quite a ride, and an event everyone should experience…whether you are or aren’t a cowboy or cowgirl.  This is the best of the best in their respective events, so the action is intense.
